I just recently completed a Bachelor of Arts majoring in visual art and mandarin Chinese. I have high school and a few great teachers to thank for my love of the Chinese language, but my art - well it's definately been a constant. I've been drawing since before I can remember.
If someone were to ask me about why I am an artist, I would say...I love to tell stories.
Stories are an inherent part of our lives. As we go from one image to another, our minds demand a story and where there is none, we create one. In my work, I deconstruct folktales, fairytales, nursery rhymes and lullabies that are part of our childhood and adult culture and transform these into pictorial storylines. My prints and artist books are flowing narratives of sensitive, colourful imagery. My work evokes a certain resonance, a recollection of what we all share. It challenges the viewer to explore their own personal stories and in some ways, transform seemingly transient moments into significant adventures.
